OBITUARY.

Sister Margaret Samuels, daughter of Reuben and Margaret Little, and wife of the late Mr. Robert Samuels, departed this life at her home in great peace, on the 8th inst., at 7 o'clock p.m., after an almost painless illness of only three hours. She was born in the state of Tennessee, on the 14th of Feb., 1811, and would therefore have filled her eighty-third year next 14th day of Feb. At the age of ten years she removed with her parents to Harrison county, Ind., where, at the age of sixteen, she was married to Mr. John Long, by whom four children were born: Mr. Jesse Long, grocer of Edina, Mo., being the only survivor. After nine years of a happy married life, her companion died, she remaining a widow for six years, when she again married to Mr. Robert Samuels, with whom, in the spring of 1841, she emigrated from Indiana to Adair county, Mo., where for many years they lived together peaceful and happy. By this second union five children were born, four of whom are still living; namely: Mrs. John Gill, Mrs. Jonas Caskey, Mrs. Elizabeth Chandler, of Indian Territory, and Robt. Samuels, Jr[.] Her second husband departed this life on the 26th of Jan., 1867, since which time she was a widow indeed, until her death.

Hers was the life of a consistent Christian wife, mother, friend, and neighbor; being noted for her kindness toward all, and for her generous christian hospitality. As a thus free and affetionate [sic] wife and mother, as a "chaste keeper of home," industrious, frugal, cleanly in personal attire, and in all her domestic affairs, she was a true model for the younger wives to pattern by. Sister Samuels will be long missed and held in affectionate remembrance by her surviving kindred, friends, neighbors, and by the community at large. For those who knew her best, loved her most. She was a practical believer in the doctrines of the Bible, and in salvation through the merits of Jesus Christ, and in the fear and love of God, did she rear her offspring.

Her remains were laid to rest on the 10th inst. in the Sloan's Point cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the undersigned, at the old homestead. The text preached from was: "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his." Num 53-10.

The relatives of deceased extend their heart felt thanks to the friends and neighbors for their manifest kindness during this hour of sorrow and bereavement.

Mother, thou art gone to rest,
And this shall be our prayer,
That when we reach our journey's end,
Thy glory we may share.
