Hilma Sofia (nee Peterson) Anderson, was born May 21, 1878, at Spring Lake in Oxford Township in Isanti County, Minnesota. Her mother was Emma (nee Rylander) Peterson. Her father Mr. Peterson, died when she was just a child. Her step-father was Peter Tenglund.
By the same Pastor Gustave Wahlund at Spring Lake, she was baptized in 1878, and as a young girl she was confirmed in 1893.
After her confirmation, Hilma Peterson lived at home on the farm until her marriage to Gustaf Anderson of Oxford Township, who had come from Sweden and was now farming in Isanti County. She became his bride July 3, 1896.
Five sons and three daughters were given to this happy union. January 14, 1940, the Gustav Andersons were received as members of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City, having come from Isanti County to live their retirement years here.
Not only did this couple have the privilege and joy of celebrating together their Golden Wedding Anniversary, but they had the singular happiness to celebrating their 65 wedding anniversary. Had Mrs. Anderson lived to July 3, it would have been the anniversary of 68 years of happy wedded life.
Mrs. Anderson became a patient at the St Croix hospital on May 18, 1964, in the early afternoon that Mrs. Anderson peacefully and quietly departed this life at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 2 days.
She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Arvid, who died before he was 1 year of age and also by two brothers, John and Charles and one twin sister, Selma(Mrs. Ed Fox) of Mpls.
She is survived by her husband Gustaf Anderson, whose life was as much centered on hers and to whom she was such a joy and companion.
She is sadly missed by children who here always in her heart and who remember "Mother" with much affection. They are Raymond of Shafer, Edna (Mrs. A W Lent) of Center City, Lawrence of Hopkins, Gladys (Mrs. Leroy Erickson) of Los Gatos, California, Edith F Stark of Minneapolis and Harold of Center City.
Mrs. Gust Anderson had an open heart and open home for her Pastor and was appreciative of the ministry of the Gospel always craving such experiences for her family as well. Both in her home and in the hospital she responded with gratitude to the reading of the Scripture, prayer and the singing of hymns of faith. She was the mother whose thoughts were always with her family, being concerned not only for their physical welfare, but also for their spiritual welfare.
She also leaves to mourn seventeen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews remember "Aunt Hilma" with appreciation.
