She grew up in a farm family of 12 children (10 boys & 2 girls). Her youngest child, daughter Ruby, told me in 2000 (at age 94), "Momma knew nothing of 'pretty' stuff and had poor self esteem. She got a fever just after New Year's Day & never got better and just willed herself to death by Thanksgiving. ... She talked a lot about her family, but not much was ever said about Daddy's family." A photo of all but two of her siblings is on her mother's memorial, HERE. Her only sister who died after a son was born is HERE.

About 1905-10 photo, beneath the 1st: nine (9) sons remained alive for the photo (out of the original ten..."L. E." died 1908 at age 32). Only one of the two daughters remain (Mary Estelle died in 1903 with her first childbirth). These are the living children of Ephraim Poole Kolb & Mary Jane jackson Kolb of Sumter, S. C. In 1995 a phoyographic negative was arranged to make a copy of the original, unrestored photograph by Driggers Photography, Irmo, S. C. (who owns that negative). On 8/12/1996, Kim at Columbia Photo produced this computer restoration for me and that disc is owned by that company. Family may contact those sources for copies.
