Funeral services for Frieda C. Buckendahl, 97, of Pierce, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce.
The Rev. Gordon Bruce will officiate. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Parish Cemetery. Mrs. Buckendahl died Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Osmond Care Center.
Frieda Caroline Buckendahl was born July 11, 1904, in Pierce to August and Caroline (Baumann) Koerting.
She was baptized Aug. 29, 1904, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hoskins, and was confirmed April 13, 1919, at Zion East Lutheran church in rural Hoskins.
She attended rural Pierce country school, located east of Pierce.
She married Anton Buckendahl on Feb. 24, 1927, at Zion East Lutheran Church, where she was a member.
The couple farmed in the Pierce area all of their life. After retiring from farming, the couple continued to live on the farm , which was located northeast of Pierce.
Following the death of her husband in 1984, Mrs. Buckendahl remained on the farm, and then moved to Arlington to live with her daughter. She moved back to the Meadows in Norfolk in 1992. She lived at the Randolph Nursing Home and since March of 2000, she has lived at the Osmond Care Center. She spent her life as a wife, mother, and grandmother, which she loved doing.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Vada Buckendahl of Pierce, six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant daughter, daughter and son-in-law, Donna Mae Hofmann and Alex Hofmann, one grandson, Roger Buckendahl, two great-granddaughters, four brothers and three sisters.
