"The LaFayette Sun" - October 23, 1907:

Burkes' Peak - "Grandma" Coggins, an old and highly respected lady, near Sandy Ridge, after many years of intense suffering, died on last Sunday. She was about 80 years of age, and had been a devout and consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church for a number of years. She leaves a family of 8 children, Messrs. Jim, Tom, Jeff, Frank, Vachel, Lee, Doc and Miss Isabella. Her remains were interred Monday in the cemetery at Macedonia, Elder J. T. Satterwhite, officiating.

October 30, 1907:

In making mention of the family of "Grandma" Coggins, last week, we unintentionally omitted the name of Mr. Will Coggins, which makes the number of children nine, instead of eight, as stated in our items.

December 11, 1907:

In Memory of Grandmother.

On Oct. 20th, 1907, the Angel of Death came and quietly bore the gentle spirit of my beloved grandmother, Mrs. Daniel Coggin to the better Home.
She was 82 years and 4 days old, and a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Her husband has been dead 15 years and 8 months. Eight sons and one daughter were born to them and they raised them all to be useful men and a noble patient daughter with one son is still in the home, and I'm sure God will comfort them in their loneliness and sorrow.
It has been something over two years since I parted with my dear grandmother.
I can't imagine what the old place is like without her gentle smiling face, and her invalid's chair. She having been an invalid for a long time, and hadn't walked a step in years. She suffered intensely at times, till her life was a burden to her. She longed for a Heavenly Home, where she would be free from pain and care.
Let us weep not for her for we know she is at rest, but let us each try to imitate her Christian example for we know that some day we are to cross the same river she has already gone over.
Yet ‘tis hard to say farewell ‘til then, but the all seeing one never makes mistakes. So farewell my idolized grandmother ‘till we meet in the sweet bye and bye.

- Anna (Coggins) McClendon, Aubrey, Texas
