A resident of Block Island, with family connections to other early Block Island settlers, Mrs. Mitchell, nee Abigail Dickens, died on the island in "ye 60th Year of her Age". Born in January 1698 to Thomas and Sarah (nee Dodge) Dickens, she married Jonathan Mitchell. Her slate headstone,which features a soul effigy in its tympanum, is the work of noted stonecutter William Stevens (b.1710).
