Mrs. Emma Jean Carter, of Charlottesville, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010.
She was born on July 25, 1925, in Charlottesville.
She was preceded in death by her son, Beverly "Rocky" Barnes and his late wife, Christine Barnes; and her two sisters, Georgia and Lucielle.
Mrs. Emma attended Charlottesville public schools and was employed at the University of Virginia as a housekeeper.
Ms. Emma is survived by one son, Lawrence Virgil Washington of Charlottesville; 14 grandchildren, Valerie Grooms, Latoria White, Shermeka Barnes, Marshall Williams, Tonya Williams, Micheal Turner, Rico Turner, Tyrone Washington, Patrice Nelson, Troy Baker, Jamie Cosby and Beverly Richardson of Charlottesville, and Tywon and Barbara Henderson of Hollywood, Flordia.; six devoted friends, Victor Witcher, Dan Anderson, Alice Hansberry, Ed Washington, Roy Martin, and Christine Carr and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at J.F. Bell Funeral Home with Reverand Louie Carr officiating.
