She was the daughter of Nelson Chase and Mary Eliza (Bonnes) Jumel Chase, the niece and adopted daughter of Madame Jumel.

"Mrs. Eliza Jumel Caryl, widow of the late Julius Henry Caryl, passed away as the result of general debility at her suburban home at Caryl, near Yonkers, on April 27th. She was an honorary president of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was born in the Jumel mansion in New York city. She was a niece of Mme. Jumel. Her maiden name was Eliza Jumel Chase and her first husband was a Frenchman by the name of Monsieur Paul Raymond Perry. Her second marriage was to Julius Henry Caryl of East Worcester, a son of Leonard Caryl, an only brother of Mrs. W. H. Ely of East Worcester, but now residing at Worcester. Her marriage to Mr. Caryl took place June 21, 1876. They resided in the Jumel mansion for eleven years and then removed to their suburban home at Caryl. Mr. Caryl died in Worcester in March, 1911."
