John and Elizabeth (Burgan) Scott were pioneer settlers of what was to become Union Township in Hendricks County, Indiana moving there from Lee County, Virginia about 1833. They are listed among the charter members of the Lizton Christian Church (see photo). They had a family of twelve children with the first ten born in Virginia and the last two in Hendricks County: Mary Jones, Francis, Nancy Goodwin, Alcy, Isom, Samuel, Martha Brookshire, James, John, Rueben, Eliza and Nathaniel. Elizabeth is listed in the 1860 census for Union Township so likely died sometime between 1860 and 1870. Like her husband John, her burial place is unknown.

The 1850 Census shows Elizabeth Scott (age 59, born in Virginia) living in Middle Township (which then included present day Union Township), Hendricks County, Indiana with children Martha (age 24), John D. (age 19), Reuben M. (age 17) and Eliza J. (age 13). The 1860 Census shows Elizabeth Scott (age 67, born in Virginia) living in Union Township, Hendricks County, Indiana with son John (age 30).
