TAYLORVILLE - Albert Lewis Smith, 78, of Taylorville, formerly of Virden, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Mount Auburn, the son of Mervel O'Howard and Dora Alberta Shyer Smith. He married Verna Aileen Moffett in 1943 in Taylorville; she died in 1987. He married Marguerite Clark Price in 1988 in Taylorville. A son, Terry Robert Smith, and a stepson, Thomas K. Price, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith graduated from Edinburg High School and attended Brown's Business College. He farmed in Roby, Auburn and Virden for many years and later operated Smith Trucking in Virden, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Blueville Masonic Lodge 647 in Edinburg for more than 50 years, where he was a past master, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville.
Survivors: wife, Marguerite; four daughters, Patricia A. (husband, Steve) Burke of Louisburg, Kan., Carol J. (husband, Charles) Hurley of Washington, Mo., and Cathy A. Molen and Gail L. Smith, both of Taylorville; three sons, Richard L. (wife, Roberta) Smith of Virden, and Howard Lee (wife, Janice) and Michael A. (wife, Sue) Smith, both of Girard; a stepdaughter, Margaret A. (husband, David) Requarth of Edinburg; a stepson, Gail Price of Taylorville; 28 grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter; 30 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Shirley of Litchfield, Eloise Patrick of Mechanicsburg and Agnes Leach of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville, the Rev. Alan Hunter and the Rev. Travis Hurley officiating. Burial: Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
