Samuel T. Scott, son of Elizabeth and John Scott, was born in Lee County, Virginia on October 27, 1823 and died on Saturday, April 29, 1911, aged 87 years, 6 months and 2 days. He was of a family of twelve children, six brothers and five sisters; one sister, Mrs. Martha Brookshire of Boone County, survives.

He came to Hendricks County with his parents at the age of ten. Here he spent the remainder of his life. He was married to Mary Leach in 1848. To this union was born five children, four boys and one girl: James E., Elizabeth J. Ayers, John W. M., Enos M. and Nathaniel W. His wife departed this life August 2, 1908. He had eight grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren who preceded him into the unknown. He leaves five children, twenty-six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. He united with the Methodist Church several years ago, having membership with the Lizton congregation. [Note: Samuel's wife, Mary, was a granddaughter of William Montgomery, in whose home the Lizton congregation was founded in 1832.] He was one of the sturdy pioneers of this County, hard working, energetic and honest. He had borne adversity bravely and enjoyed prosperity quietly.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. Earl Moore. [Note: Earl Moore was a grandson of Samuel's brother, Isom Scott.] The body was laid to rest in the K. of P. Cemetery at Lizton.
