Lawrence Calvin Weltmer died at his home 4 miles south and one mile west of Smith Center Monday afternoon, April 21, 1902. He had been sick but a little more than a week with pneumonia which seemed to have taken such a firm hold on him that nothing could be done to check it. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday by Rev. Henry Slater. The deceased was 27 years, 4 months and 29 days old. He was born here and always resided in this county. He leaves a wife Harriet Isabelle Hays Weltmer and three children; George Floyd, Alice Belle and Charley Lawrence Weltmer. His wife being the daughter of Mitchell Elmer Hays, who lives in the south part of this city. Eleven years ago Lawrence was converted and united with Adventists. He was the son of the venerable Rev. David Washington Weltmer and like his father bore an excellent reputation on the community in which he will be greatly missed. (Smith County Pioneer)

Our Brother
It seems but a dream, yet I know it is true,
That brother has bid to this earth adieu;
He has left his babies, a loving wife so true,
A father and brothers and sisters, too.

Ah yes! he is sleeping by mother's side;
The Lord and the Savior was his guide;
For more than six years he was faithful and true,
But now he has bid to old earth adieu.

How oft we have heard him ask God's blessing;
Yes, only ten days prior to his death,
As we sat around his table
Where the bread of life was spread.

We know that he is sleeping in Jesus;
Yes, only free from earth's toil and pain;
For Jesus is surely coming,
He's coming back to earth again.

Praise the Lord! let us all be faithful,
And we will meet our loved ones so true;
For when Jesus does come, the faithful
With all bid to old earth adieu.
