Marie Duplessis
Birth: Jan. 15, 1824
Death: Feb. 3, 1847

Parisian courtesan, involved briefly with Alexandre Dumas fils, who later named her "Marguerite Gauthier" in his novel "La Dame Aux Camellias" (and, later, the play "Camille"); still later she was named "Violetta Valery" for Verdi's opera La Traviata, based on the play and novel. She is well known as "The Lady of the Camellias."
