Arlene Alice York was born November 1, 1936, in Washington, Iowa, a daughter of Dale and Dorothy (Shafer) York. She married Danny C. Cherryholmes on November 7, 1958, at Christian Tabernacle Church, Washington, Iowa. She graduated from Washington High School in 1954. In earlier years, Arlene enjoyed roller-skating and that is where she met her husband, Danny, who was a 1956 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.
She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and plastic canvas stitching. Arlene had been an avid bowler and bowled for over 37 years. She was a member of the Davenport/Bettendorf Bowling Association for 15 years.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 178; International Order of Rainbow for Girls; and was elected to the Grand Cross of Color. Arlene also held offices at the local and state levels, including Assistant Mother Advisor, Rainbow Board Member, Leadership Director and State Project Chairman.
She also had been a member of Esther Circle through Grace United Methodist Church. As a younger woman, she taught Sunday school and sang for various occasions at Christian Tabernacle Church in Washington.
Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society or Genesis VNA Hospice.
Survivors include her husband, Danny; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Kirk Conyers, Blair, Neb., and Kari and Dean Hoag, Sully, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Sue Cherryholmes, Davenport; grandchildren, Scott, Brett, Cody, Bryan, Laura, Kara, Tyler and Ryan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Sharon York, Davenport, and Curt and Shirley York and Michael and Becky York, all of Washington, Iowa.
Her parents and a brother in childhood preceded her in death.
