Birth: Mar. 5, 1801
Adams County
Ohio, USA
Death: Jun. 3, 1891
Decatur County
Indiana, USA

Nancy ("Nan") Montgomery was the third of nine children (six daughters, three sons) of Samuel Montgomery (1766-1848) and Margaret Barker (1767, PA to 7 or 9 Sept. 1855, Shiloh Cem., Decatur Co., IN). Her father migrated from northern Ireland to the United States shortly after the Revolution. The Montgomery family was one of the earliest settlers after the Stout family to Stout Landing in Green Twp., Adams Co., Ohio, probably arriving about 1797-8. The Montgomery parcel was located on Sunshine Ridge, north of Stout's, comprising 160 acres, including the Montgomery Cemetery.

Nancy Montgomery and William M. Rogers were married by Rev. Joseph Westbrook, father-in-law of Nancy's brother, Samuel Montgomery, Jr. in Adams Co., OH 17 January 1822.

A New Era Decatur County newspaper obituary for Nancy Rogers indicated she and William Rogers moved to Adams Twp., Decatur County, Indiana in October, 1829, which corresponds to the time they entered their parcel.

William and Nancy Rogers were faithful Methodists from Ohio. Records indicate they submitted their papers upon arrival in Decatur County. They may have been founding members of Shiloh Methodist Church to which this cemetery appends. Shiloh Methodist Church records show them as class leaders in its earliest founding years.

William and Nancy Rogers' children were: John Wesley; Eliza Jane Rogers Drake (1824 - unk., possibly buried Cook Co., IL); Joseph Willis (3 Feb. 1826 [m. Sarah Drake] disappeared suddenly, date of death unk.); Russel Biglow; James Harvey (18 Aug. 1830 - 3 Nov. or March 1870, MO [Nodaway Co. likely]); Samuel Davis (14 March 1834 - 9 June 1903, VA Cem. near Old Soldier's Home, Dayton, OH); Elizabeth Ellen; Martha Esther Eckert (John J.)(17 Dec. 1838 - 3 Dec. 1903, Mt. Moriah Cem., West Adams, Decatur Co., IN); Sarah Emeline Rogers Bennington; and William Worden Rogers.

William and Nancy Rogers farmed a couple of miles nne of Shiloh, not far from Sandusky. Many of her descendants reside in the area to the present.

The obituary for Nancy Rogers, who lived to be 90, indicated she was bedfast for a number of years before passing from "general debility").
