He was born Pieter Diercks and when he married on Oct 1, 1627 to Geertruy Philips van Schuyler he apparently became known as Pieter Schuyler. He became an Amsterdam baker and two of his sons, Philip Pieterse and David Pieterse Schuyler emigrated to New Netherland by 1650.
