Carl "Ike" J. Iacovelli Jr., 79, of the Glen Mills section of Concord, a retired Boeing manager, died July 21 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Middletown.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Iacovelli lived in Media for 62 years before moving to the Glen Mills section of Concord. He attended the old Media High School and Augusta Military Academy. For 37 years Mr. Iacovelli worked for Boeing Helicopters in Ridley Township where he was a senior manager of quality engineering before his retirement in 1995.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. An accomplished athlete, Mr. Iacovelli played professional baseball in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system in the late 1940s and continued to play in the Delco League and Delco Valley League. He was a former president of the Media Lions Club. Mr. Iacovelli enjoyed sailing the northern Chesapeake Bay on this 30-foot sloop, the "Michael D." He was the father of the late Michael D. Iacovelli.
Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Thalia Quinney Iacovelli; son, Carl J. Iacovelli III of the Havertown section of Haverford; daughter, Andrea L. Iacovelli of Delaware; two grandsons.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Rigby, Harting, and Hagan Funeral Home, 15 E. Fourth Street, Media.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial: Edgewood Memorial Park, Concord.
