Returned War
Vet Killed by
Fall in Creek

MIDDLEPORT - Will trapping with his grandfather, Andy Stewart, at the creek near Little Kyger Church. last night, Charles Robert (Bob) Stewart, age 22, toppled into the stream, and when recovered, was found to be dead.

The youth, a retired war veteran, had received his discharge seven weeks ago and had returned to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rome Stewart of Gallia County.

The body was brought to the Rawlings-Coats Funeral Home, where it was prepared for burial. Information concerning the tragedy and funeral arrangements were unable to be announced because of the distraught condition of the parents and grandfather, who were under the care of a physician.

It was the belief that the young man, who was in an airplane crash in England, receiving a serious head injury, might have succumbed before falling into the shallow stream.

The Stewart family lived on Brownell Ave. Middleport, for a number of years, and Bob was a graduate of Middleport High School.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rome Stewart; two brothers, Marvin, with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, Norman, of the U.S. Army; and a sister, Jean.
