Funeral Services for Thomas Mervin Chester ,age 89,of Dike ,will be held at Murray-Orwasky Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Monday ,January 31,2005,with Larry Jordan and Ronny Glossup officiating . Interment will follow at Mahoney Cemetery with grandsons,Roger Burks,Gary Burks,Donald Lynn Patterson ,Dubby Henton,Timmy Dorner ,Brian Dorner ,D.J.Powers and Blake Irving serving as pallbears.Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Ray,G.H.Mitchell,G.R.Romans,Marlin Jones ,Rudolph Debord and Ray Vaughn.Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 P.M.Sunday January 30,2005 at Murray-Orwasky Funeral Home .
Thomas Mervin Chester passed away at 6:36 p.m.,Friday ,January 28,2005 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Old Tarrant ,on January 4,1916, the son of Walter and Annie Douglas Chester . He married Marie Cranford at Dike ,on April 22,1939 ; she survives .
Mr.Chester was a rancher for 75 years.He was a Hopkins County Commissioner Precint 3 for 18 years,President of Woodman of the World.He was a member of The Odd Fellows Lodge,Rod-N-Gun Club,Board of Aging Architect Council of Government,ASC Committe.He was a director for Farm Bureau.He was of the Baptist faith .
Other survivors include three daughters,Vonda Nelson and husband Charlie of Sulphur Springs,Katie Paterson and Husband Don ,of Dike,Patricia Dorner and Husband George of Sulphur Bluff;grandchildren,Roger Burks,Gary Burks,Donald Lynn Paterson,Linda Henton,Timmy Dorner,Brian Dorner,,Karen Powers,and Cheyenne Chester ;19 great grandchildren;and one great-great-grandchild . ;sisters Katherine Young of Sulphur Springs and Janie Chapman of Grand Prairie.
He was preceded in death by one Son ,Johnny Chester in Nov.2004;three sisters and two brothers.Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice .
