Dr. Carl A. Minning Sr., a family physician and one of the founders of Clermont Mercy Hospital, died Monday.

The 91-year-old Clermont County native practiced in the Williamsburg-Batavia area for 53 years, delivering 1,052 babies and caring for more than 23,000 patients.

During the 1930s, he served on the Williamsburg Village Council.

Family members say he felt his greatest achievement was helping to establish Clermont Mercy Hospital, a local community hospital. He also donated Minning Hall, a part of Clermont Mercy Hospital. The University of Cincinnati Medical School graduate served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II and in 1976 received the Daniel Drake Award as an outstanding Family Physician in Southwest Ohio.

He leaves his wife, Evelyn Furnish Minning; sons, Dr. Carl A. Minning Jr., of Zanesville, Ohio, and Paul Minning of Concepcion, Chile; daughter, Lois Lipskie of Naperville, Ill.; sister, Elsa Reuscher of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
