Doris L. Smith, age 88, died October 16, 2007 at the Vinton Lutheran Home from complications of a stroke.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 22, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Father David Ambrosy as Celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call the Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave., in Vinton from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday the 21st where a Vigil Service will begin at 6 PM.
Doris was born October 17, 1918 on a farm near Urbana to Glenn E. and Mabel (Abernathy) Primmer. She graduated high school in Smith Center, KS.
On September 15, 1935 she married Nicholas A. Smith at Smith Center, KS. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1998.
A resident of Vinton since 1938, Doris was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Carol) Smith of The Villages, FL, Kenneth (Anita) Smith of Rochester, MN, Joyce (Paul) Michael of Bakersfield, CA, Robert (Carol) Smith of Wilton, Maurine Liston of Blaine, MN, and Nick (Joyce) Smith, Jr. of Riverside; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Nelda (George) Eckhart of Vinton, Pat (Dale) Cantonwine of Tipton, her brother, Glenn (June) Primmer, Jr. of Brownsville, TX; her sister-in-law, Nellie Primmer of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Joe Smith her brothers, Marion Primmer, Carl Primmer and wife, Betty; her sister, Maurine Campbell and husband, Lloyd; her infant brother, Richard Primmer; and her son-in-law, James Liston.
