Pioneer Otis Boone Passes Away Thursday

Otis Ellsworth Boone, 96-year old retired farmer and a Colorado resident since 1896, passed away in Pueblo Thursday night of complications of age.

Mr. Boone was born September 1860 in Arcola, Illinois, and came to Colorado in a covered wagon, home steading near the present community of Kirk where he engaged in dry land farming. He resided there for 21 years before moving to California. After a few years in California, he sold his fruit ranch there and moved to New England, returning shortly afterward to Colorado. Once back in Colorado, he ranched for awhile near Fowler, before moving to Canon City in 1926. He resided here until recently going to Pueblo.

He was baptized in the First Christian Church, and although he was not a member, he favored that church.

His wife, Lizzie, preceded him in death in 1934.

Surviving are three children: Mrs. Mabel Brown of Canon City, Mrs. Agnes Garnier of Florence and Mrs. Lola Adams of Pasadena, California; and 21 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Clara Stull of Fairbury, Illinois, and Edna Piper of Richfield, Idaho. Six children, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Boone was an out standing community leader in Kirk and Fowler, and was recorgnized for his mastery of dryland farming techniques.

Funeral services will be held from the Wilson drawingroom here at 9:30 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Lloyd Sparks officiating.

Interment will be in the Kirk Cemetery, Kirk Colorado; Monday at 3 p.m.
