Daughter of George V. She took an active role in promoting the Girl Guide movement, the VADs, and the Land Girls. Mary is also known as Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood. Born 25th April 1897 Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary at York Cottage, Sandringham, Norfolk. From childhood she was known by her last name Mary. Died 28th March 1965, at Harwood House, Yorkshire at the age of 67. She was the sister of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth's father. With thanks to Pamela Howlett.
