In the Clinton Co., Ohio History there was a grist-mill built in 1805 by Mordecai Mendenhall and after passing to several owners over the years it was deeded to John Hadley in May, 1837 who owned it until 1841 when he sold it.

In 1808, Eli Harvey and John Hadley, brothers-in-law, built a grist-mill on Todd's Fork about one mile below Springfield Meeting House. It was afterward owned by John Hadley, and became widely known as Hadley's Mill. His sons, Isaac and John, afterward owned it for a time.
