About this time Dr. Samuel Strong put in an appearance. His first purchase of real estate was some five acres of Land taken from the farm of Conrad Reid. adjoining the village plat of Black River. This was mapped out on paper, with streets. lanes, etc., and sales commenced. Every person in Black River that could write, and had any leisure time, was set to writing out articles of agreement for the doctor and his purchasers The five acres were soon exhausted and the doctor bought six acres from the same farm, adjoining the five acres."
