Isabella was born in County Derry, Ireland on November 11, 1811. In Ireland, she married James Kemps. In 1836, they journeyed to the US and arrived in Philadelphia. Isabella and James were Scotch-Irish and Presbyterians. While living in Philadelphia, they had four children: two boys and two girls. About 1862, the family moved to Oakdale, Illinois and began farming. On May 5, 1867, Isabella died and was buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
