NATHANIEL, eldest known child of Stephen Bachiler, was born in 1589 at Southampton, Hampshire Co., England. He was a merchant in Southampton. He was on the Lay Subsidy Rolls in Southampton in the years 1627/8, 1628/9, 1640/1,and 1641/2. In 1642/3, he made contributions for the relief of Ireland, Southampton, Holyroods Ward, Nathaniel Bachiler 1 pound.
He married first Hester Mercer, daughter of Jean and Jeanne (le Clerc) Mercer,(or Mercier) on 1613 at Southampton, Hampshire, England.
Nathaniel's second wife was Margery _____ who was appointed administratrix of his estate 9 Apr 1645. (P.C.C. Admon. Act Book 1645, p. 41). The children were probably all by Hester, although Stephen is not named in the will of Paul Mercer with the others (47 Register 511). Stephen, however, writing to his brother Nathaniel from London in April 1685, speaks of "my cosine Thomas Mercer" and "our uncle Fras. Mercer".
Nathaniel did not come to New England, but his son Nathaniel did, and resided at Hampton.
