Born Wimberly Calvin Goodman in Dallas, Texas, he is best known for his role as Sergeant Garcia on Walt Disney's live-action television series "Zorro" (1957 to 1959). He began his career in 1950, hosting a NBC Radio show and appeared in performances on Broadway. In 1952, he portrayed Big Ben on the children's TV series "Howdy Doody" and made his film debut in "Crime Against Joe" in 1956. His other film credits included "The Broken Star" (1956), "Toby Tyler" (1960), "Babes in Toyland" (1961) and "Ship of Fools" (1965). After his Disney contract ended, he guest starred in numerous television series such as "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", "The Woman from U.N.C.L.E." and sang children's songs for Disneyland Records. As Sgt. Garcia, you made two generations of my family laugh and enjoy the "Zorro" series of the '50's.. Your comedic antics , as well as your singing ability, made you an icon of my childhood. Thank you, Mr. Calvin. -
