Birth: Apr. 10, 1843
Death: Aug. 24, 1933

Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a recruit Private in Company B of the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on October 15, 1861. He served through his regiments participation in the Battles of Gaines Mill, Second Bull Run, Crampton's Gap, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Mine Run Campaign. He re-enlisted on December 28, 1863, and participated in the battles that constituted the Spring 1864 Overland Campaign and the Seige of Petersburg. Whne the non-re-enlisting members of the 1st New Jersey Infantry were mustered out in June 1864, he and his remaining comrades served for a time attached to the 4th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. When the veterans of the 1st New Jersey were re-organized into the 1st New Jersey Veteran Volunteer Battallion, Private Archer served in Company A. He participated in the Union Army assaults on Petersburg in April 1862, and through the conclusion of the war. He was honorably mustered out on June 29, 1865.
