Died at her residence in this city on the morning of December 26, 1903, Mrs. C. A. Hobbs in the fifty-second year of her age.
Mrs. Hobbs was born in Matagorda county where Bay City now stands, on April 21st, 1851. She was married to Jesse Hobbs November 11, 1868, and moved to Alvin July 1884. She was a descendant from the old family of Lees and was a distant relation of that great good man, General Robert E. Lee. She was a faithful wife and fond and loving mother and was loved by all who knew her for her kind Christian actions in this life. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon at 8:30 o'clock, after which the remains were followed by a long procession of sorrowing friends to their last resting place in the Confederate cemetery. She leaves a husband and seven grown children, besides many friends and relatives to mourn her.
(Note: All persons mentioned in this bio and obit are now deceased. I added names only for genealogical purposes.) She is buried in the Hobbs family plot, but has no marker. There is no link found that would prove she is in any way related to General Robert E. Lee, although it is mentioned in her obituary that she was distant kin. I believe this is simply family lore and there is, at this point in the Lee family research, nothing to prove any such relationship.
