Weldon ROGERS, 76, of Perryton, died September 13, 2004.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Nazarene in Perryton with Pastor Sally Boyd and Wally Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service in Booker.
He was born October 30, 1927 in Marietta, Oklahoma, and married Velva ELLIS on September 2, 1972 in Reno, Nevada. In his broadcasting career as a radio announcer, they lived in various places around the United States before moving to Perryton.
He wrote and co-wrote songs for many famous country singers, and made an appearance on the Grand Old Opry. He was also a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army, and a past member of the VFW. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Perryton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Sadie ROGERS.
He is survived by his wife, Velva, of the home; two sons, Weldon Nelson ROGERS, Jr. of Modesto, California and Wade FLAMING of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Laura Sue CUNNINGHAM of Texas; two brothers, Willie ROGERS of Briggsdale, Colorado and Dave ROGERS of Amarillo; two sisters, Chris LINDSEY of Shreveport, Louisiana and Betty BERNARD of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
