He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict (United States Army). He worked as the manager of Glen's Finer Homes in Coeburn, VA. He was the son of the late Leonard and Vonda Collins Sturgill, and he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lee Sturgill; and two brothers, Carrol Sturgill and Johnny Sturgill. He was survived by his wife, Janet Mullins Sturgill; a daughter, Charlene Oncale; four sons, Kevin Sturgill (Denise), Mickey Sturgill (Heather), Aaron Sturgill (Lindsey) and Norton Sturgil (Jennifer) two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six sisters, Leona Short, Delores Mullins, Mary Lou Rogers, Frances Addington, Charlotte Roberts and Patricia Webb; his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Goldie Mullins; and an extended family of relatives and friends. His funeral was held November 23, 2003, with The Rev. Wayne Hager and The Rev. Tim Hager officiating. His interment was held with military honors given by VFW Post 9600 and American Legion Post 66. He attended Zion Family Ministries in Wise, VA.
