Mrs. Wade H. Whitney 86, Humboldt died Thursday afternoon Oct
14, 1965 at the Holman Nursing Home in Humboldt. Mrs. Whitney had been
bedfast for week. She entered the nursing home in June of this year.
Mrs. Whitney was born Nov 18, 1878 at Rossville, Kansas a
daughter of Archibald and Elizabeth Abbott. She spent her early life at
Rossville and Topeka vicinities prior to her marriage.
Mar 29, 1904, she was married to Mr. Whitney at Topeka . the
couple established their home in Richardson County near Falls City. In
1924, they moved from the Salem area to a farm five miles northwest of
Humboldt. They retired in 1945 and move into Humboldt.
Mr. Whitney died Nov 9, 1949. A daughter died in infancy and she
was also preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Mrs Whitney was a member of the Humboldt Methodist Church and
a charter member of Women's Society of Christian service of the church.
Mrs Whitney is survived by a son Howard Whitney, Humboldt, two
daughters Mr. Cooper (Una) Darby Gulfport, Miss and Mrs Karl (Arlene
Vonderhaar, Biloxi Miss and a brother Charles Abott, Shattuck Okla. There
are also six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs Darby has
been here since Wednesday and Mrs Vondeerhaar will arrive Saturday.
The body of Mrs. Whitney is at Wherry Brothers Mortuary in
Humboldt. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at
the Methodist church at Humboldt, conducted by the Rev. L.E. Terpatra. The
body will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1p.m. until the funeral
hour. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery
