Robert Lee Adkins Sr., 66, of Big Creek, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 8, 2010, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 21, 1944, in Mt. Gay, he was a son of the late Earl and Cora Frye Adkins. Also preceding him in death was his wife Geraldine Adkins; one son, Johnny Adkins; two brothers, Clifford Adkins and Arnold Griffith, and his father and mother-in-law, James B. and Beulah Watts Mills.

Robert was a member of Gospel Truth Independent Baptist Church. He loved car shows, picnics, family reunions, gardening, gospel music, doing work outside, visiting family and friends and especially attending church.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Angela Adkins (companion Randy Lucas) of Big Creek; two sons, Robert (Amy) Adkins Jr. of North Fork of Big Creek and Charles (Kim) Adkins of Stone Branch; three sisters, Myrtle Browning of Chapmanville, Betty (James) Fleming of Harts and Willa (Taylor) Smith of Rossmore; four brothers, Earl Adkins Jr., of Huntington, Virgil (Alice) Griffith Jr., of North Carolina, Johnny C. (Marie) Adkins of West Milton, Ohio, and Harold Gene (Ruth) Adkins of Ohio; three grandchildren, Natasha, Abagail and Jordan Adkins; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Adkins and Dollie Griffith, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 12, at the Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Spry officiating. He will be laid to rest in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Pallbearers will be Randy Lucas, Charles Adkins, Ray Hensley Jr., and David Ritchie.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
