My loving father was put in an orphanage along with his siblings because the mother couldn't afford them. Dad was on his own since twelve.
Ray was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. He ran away from the orphanage at age 12 and followed the circus across the states. Since he was too young to work, Ray worked for the circus in exchange for food and shelter. In 1943 he met my mom and got married in 1944. Ray is the father of two. A son who was a veteran of Vietnam, and a daughter.
Ray is the son of Andrew Jackson Mitchell and Janie (Fairfax) Mitchell Young. Ray lost his father when he was six years old. His mother died in 1981.
Ray's youngest brother, Leonard, drown on his 13th birthday in 1933. Ray's older brother, Albert, died at the age of 85 in 2001.
On Ray's two younger sisters Gladys, born about 1922, and Nellie, born about 1924, I have no further information on them and cannot confirm their deaths.
