Death: Apr. 8, 1851

Ohio, USA

MAJOR PETER COBLENTZ (9.22.1769-4.8.1851) 1st m. 6.3.1794 Barbara Rubel 911.5.1775-9.25.1823), daughter of Peter and Catherine Wirt Rubel. (Re: Ref. Church, Frederick, Md.) 2nd m. 12.3.1824 Mary Magdalena Beckenbaugh, widow of George Beckenbaugh and daughter of Nicolas Bowlus. His home in Dayton, Ohio, was on the northeast corner of Main and 5th Streets. His will was written 1.3.1851 and probated 4.15.1851. He is buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. His will also refers to his farm on Lost Creek, Miami County, Ohio, and directs his sons, Jacob and John R., as executors to pay, to the trustees of the German Reformed Church in Dayton, Ohio, $600 from the first proceeds of his estate. His Will is on record in Dayton Wills Record E 50-case 2374- Docket A1, 447. (In the basement of the Court House in Dayton under Case 2374 will be found complete documents pertaining to the Executors' accounting and receipts for their inheritances signed the heirs through 2.19.1881 and later.) Barbara is buried Reformed Church Cemetery, Middletown, Md., adjoining the grave of her father-in-law, Peter Coblentz (2.28.1732-6.9.1808). Her tombstone reads "Barbara, wife of Peter Coblentz."

On Feb. 27, 1805, Peter Coblentz, Sr. transferred a tract of land called "Stoney Land" containing 160 acres to his son Peter Coblentz, Jr. This tract of land was acquired by peter, Sr. from his brother Herman Coblentz. On May 16, 1832, Peter Coblentz Jr. sold this farm of 160 acres, called "Stoney Land," to John Coblentz and this deed explains that Peter Coblentz, Sr. originally acquired this farm on January 15, 1789. Both parties in this deed were living in Frederick County, Md. (Js 40-117). It is assumed that this is the homestead of Peter, Jr., and although his first wife Barbara, died 9.25.1823 and that he was married to his second wife, Magdalena, widow of George Beckenbaugh, at the time of the sale of his homestead on 5.16.1832, yet Magdalena as his wife did not acknowledge this deed transfer. Note that a deed recorded on land records of Frederick Co., Md., dated 11.22.1825 (JS23-518) which reads "Magdalena, wife of Peter Coblentz, is the widow of George Beckenbaugh, dec., sells her dower rights --- Daniel Bowlus is the executor of the will of Geo. Beckenbaugh." Note that according to the land records, after the death of his father, Peter, Sr. that Peter Coblentz, Jr. drops the title of Junior. Peter Coblentz and wife Magdalena were living in Montgomery County, Ohio, on 3.9.1833 and also on 6.19.1843 when he set free his slave and her two children in Frederick County, Md. (Land Record HS 20.73.) He was then 73 years old. There were seven children: Jacob, Catherine, Elizabeth, Peter, John R., Rebecca, and Lydia.
