He was born Jakuba or Jacobus Stanislawski on May 5, 1858 in Germany to unknown parents.

At the age of twenty-four he came to America. Prior to leaving for America he resided in Germany. He left from the port of Antwerp, Belgium and sailed across the Atlantic in the S.S. Pennland. Jacob arrived at Castle Garden, New York on January 22, 1883. He listed his occupation only as a laborer. He listed his final destination as Berea, Ohio.

He married Johanna Sztupay on July 14, 1884 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

On December 23rd, 1885, Jacob filed for citizenship in the Probat Court of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He signed his petition "Jacob Stanislawski", eventhough the clerk and index have it down as Stanislowski. He listed his country of origin as Germany,

Jacob was naturalized as a United States Citizen on November 5, 1888 at the District Court in Cleveland, Ohio. He listed his address as Berea, Ohio. Michael Rasny of Berea, Ohio was the witness.

During 1900, he raised his family in the 4th ward of Black River Township, Lorain County, Ohio. At that time he owned his own home and had the occupation of a liquor dealer. He died on June 3, 1903.
