Enlisted in the Confederate States Army on March 25, 1862 in Barnwell, South Carolina as a Private. Mustered in Company H, 2nd SC Artillery which was also known as the 1st SC Artillery and formerly the 2nd (Lamar) Batt'n SC Artillery.
