Benjamin Hathaway, poet, born in Cayuga county, New York, 30 September, 1822. He spent the large portion of his youth building a successful "model" farm with his brother, Judson, but he was always to be found with writing materials. He did not have formal schooling, but possessed a will to learn. He was eventually able to successfully compose and publish poems and stories, which were published as follows: Art-Life, 1877; The League of the Iroquois, 1881; and The Finished Creation, 1892 (which can all be found online). He was married first in 1873, to Amelie John, and after her death, to Kittie Richmond in 1886. His daughter Helen (with Amelie), never married.
