[A Descendent of the Kartchner/Wilcox family of Philadelphia]

George was the third child/first son of James and Margaret (Kartchner) Webb - his father immigrated from England. It appears that his family was constantly on the move. The only census record found for the Webb family [1850 in Beauvais, Ste Genevieve Co, Missouri]. As noted in the introduction of this study, his siblings were Hannah, Sarah (m. Daniel Rees 1955, m. Richard Alexander 1866), Forest and Rebecca. Of these five children born, only George and Sarah reached majority. It is not clear whether her father died or left the family sometime between 1850 and 1854 but it is known that his mother married twice, the second time to John Purvis.

His wife, Mary L Conwell was born in 1851, the second surviving child and possibly the first daughter of Clark and Rebecca (Toppins) Conwell.
