OGDEN – Olwyn Evans Bergeson, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Ogden, Utah.
She was born March 2, 1918 in Preston, Idaho, to Philip John and Alma Henneberg Evans. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City and learned clothing design at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois.
Olwyn joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was 20 years old. On December 24, 1941, she married Dale Allen Bergeson in Los Angeles, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Olwyn served a mission with her husband to the Santiago Chile South Mission from 1983-85. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for 12 years.
Dale and Olwyn owned and operated the Hiway Motel in Ogden. She also worked as a secretary for Utah Power & Light and the Weber County Planning Commission, and retired from McKay-Dee Hospital.
Olwyn loved to read, travel, and was always up for an adventure. She was an expert seamstress, a great cook, a wonderful mother, and delighted in her family. She was an example of resilience and enduring to the end.
Olwyn is survived by her children, Susan Russell of Morgan, UT; Neil Bergeson of Maumelle, AR; and Joan and Eric Showalter of Sandy, UT. She has 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Robert Dale Bergeson, sister, Phyllis Clayton, and brother, Philip John Evans, Jr.
The family expresses thanks to Chancellor Gardens, Crestwood Care Center and Hospice for Utah for their loving care and kindness shown to our mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Family will visit with friends at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lewiston, Utah Cemetery.
