Mr. Chester Earl Carbaugh, 78, of 10065 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away at 8:04 P.M., Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA.
Born February 6, 1932 in South Mountain, PA, he was the son of the late Chester B. Carbaugh and Anna Mae (Kauffman) Myers. He spent his early life in South Mountain where he attended school. Mr. Carbaugh served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He and his wife of over 23 years, Mrs. Gloria E. (Daywalt) Carbaugh, were married October 8, 1986 in Hagerstown, MD. They had lived at their present residence since May 6, 1989. Mr. Carbaugh was employed at South Mountain Restoration Center in the boiler and sewage plant for 31 years. He retired February 15, 1991. Earl also butchered, owning his own shop for many years, from 1982 until the present.
He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Carbaugh was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 and William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695, both of Waynesboro, Waynesboro Fish and Game Association, South Mountain Fish and Game Association, charter member of South Mountain Fire Company where he served for over 54 years, Mont Alto Fire Company where he served for 17 years, Franklin County Fire Police and South Mountain Fire Police where he served for over 50 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Lee Naugle of Orrtanna, PA, Connie M. Weichsler of Virginia Beach, VA, Kathey S. Carbaugh of Waynesboro, Brenda St. Clair of Danville, PA, Jeff Kitchens of Lewisburg, PA and Roberta A. Wagaman of South Mountain; four step-children, Debbie A. Dunbar of Greencastle, PA, Wrennis L. Welsh, Jr. of Waynesboro, Roy C. Monn, Sr. of Fayetteville, PA and Lee O. Monn of Waynesboro; and helped to raise Robin A. Monn of South Mountain; 27 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a son, John E. Carbaugh.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 10, 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker officiating. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg.
