Hans P. Madsen, 82, a resident of
Rigby for 62 years, died suddenly
Tuesday morning .October 1, at the
home of his youngest daughter, Mrs.
Vera West, of Rigby. Death was due
to a heart ailment.
The son of Hans Peter and Anna
Madsen, he was born October 25,
1864 at Big Cottonwood, Utah. At
the age of 20, he came to Idaho with
his brother-in-law, Omer Call and
homesteaded a farm east of Rigby
where he and his family resided unt
i l 1937. He was married to Edith
Robbins, also a member of a pioneer
family, Dec. 31st, 1888, and to this
union 15 children were born, eleven
of whom aie living. Mrs. Madsen
died in May, 1932.
Mr. Madsen was a devout and faithf
u l member of the L.D.S. church. He
filled a mission and sent four of his
sons on missions, three of them being
assigned to missions in foreign countries.
He held many positions in the
church, and was a member of Rigby
stake high council for a number of
years. He had served as a stake
missionary until his health began to
f a i l . Mr. Madsen had lived with his
daughter, Mrs. Vera West for the
past several years, and was a faithf
u l and highly respected member of
the Fourth ward, where he took an
active part.
Survivors include the following
sons and daughters: Lavern Madsen,
Salt Lake City, Dan Madsen,
Nephi, Utah; Melvin Madsen, Rupert;
Mrs. Earl McPherson, Nephi.
Utah; Reed Madsen, Portland, Oregon;
Howard, Arnel, Loyal, Theo,
Mrs. James McPherson and Mrs. Ten-neth
West, Rigby; 43 grandchildren
and 17 great grandchildren. A sister,
Mrs. Serena Mason of Berkeley, Cat,
and three half-sisters survive: Mrs.
Ida Singleton, St. Anthony; Mrs.
Marie Thompson, Basalt; and Mrs.
Anna Jacobs, Ogden.
Funeral services have been set for
Friday at one o'clock f r om the Fourth
ward church. The body will be at
the Eckersell funeral home until the
time of services. Interment will be
in Pioneer cemetery.
