Taken from a letter penned by A. D. Mahon: George Dillon was wounded in the thigh and pit of the stomach which caused his death the next morning. Wounded during the Fort Spanish battle. (Huntington Herald, Huntington, Indiana, Wednesday, April 19, 1865)

We learn from a letter, that George Dillon, son of Mrs. Mahala Dillon, of this place, and a private in Co. F., 47th Indiana Regiment, was wounded in the left hip while on picket duty near New Orleans on the morning of the 27th of March, and died from his injuries shortly after. In recent battles before Mobile, the following soldiers of the 47th Indiana were killed and wounded . . . George W. Dillon, killed. . . .
