Paul Thomas "Crab" Anderson, 95, of Decatur, passed away at 5:35 am Thursday, July 1, 2010 in Heartland Health Care Center, Decatur.

He was born December 21, 1914, in Marrowbone, KY, the son of Emmit and Frances (Capps) Anderson. Paul worked for 2 years for Saint Joseph Township Highway Dept, 17 years for IL Terminal Railroad and 20 years for Norfolk & Western Wabash Railroad where he retired from in 1975 at age 60. He served in the Army for 3 ½ years during WW II with the 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion and during that time he spent 8 months in Europe where he saw action at the Battle of The Bulge. Paul was discharged in 1945 as a 100% disabled veteran. Paul was a member of Central Baptist Church, Shriners, and Past Commander of DAV Chapter # 17 and VFW Post # 99 in Decatur. He was a life member of VFW Post # 5520 in Champaign, and American Legion Post # 634 in St. Joseph. He married Edna H. (Kush) in 1945 and she preceded him in death. He then married Ida Cathryn "Katie" (Rettig) Anderson in 1978 and she preceded him death. Surviving are his brothers: James H. (Bernie) Anderson of Ft. Meyers, FL, and William L. Anderson of Champaign; sisters: Sara Ann Rasner of Savoy, and Mary Frances Thompson of Urbana; step grandchildren: Ricky Voyles of Decatur, Steven Voyles of Shelbyville, Janice (Steven) Manes of Mt. Pulaski, and Sherri (John) Criner of Effingham; 5 step great grandchildren, 4 step great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives; sisters: Florence Pinter, Willa Mae Kendig, and Shirley Jean Anderson; step sons: Larry and Jerry Voyles; and step granddaughter, Carol Sue Voyles. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 2 until the service time at 3 pm in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Interment with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family of Paul Thomas "Crab" Anderson is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, honored provider of Veterans Funeral Care, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur, IL 62526.
