Funeral services for Mr. Wheeler "Bowie" Leevolany Carlile, 81, of Leon are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Dale Tarp officiating. Interment will follow at Simon Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.

Bowie was born July 17, 1928, at Oswalt to the late Mr. Wheeler Leevolany Carlile, Sr. and Mrs. Bonnie Ideller (Walker) Carlile. He departed this life Friday July 2, 2010, at Oklahoma City.


Bowie was raised in Love County and attended school at Orr. He joined the United States Army his senior year. After his military service, he moved to Oklahoma City and was employed for the W.H. Stewart Company as a welder and welding inspector for 33 years. In 1992 he returned to Leon, where he loved to reside. He took pride in his garden and loved his coon dogs. He was also an avid sports fan and loved Love County.


Preceding him in death were his parents, son Wheeler Leevolany Carlile, III, four brothers, Alvin, Jiggs, Cleatis, and J.W. Carlile, and one sister, Rachel Cox.


Survivors include daughter Claudette Skirlock of Oklahoma City, son David Wendal Carlile of Oklahoma City, three sisters, Lawanda Garrison of Pilot Point, Texas and Pearl Hilton and Nancy Cothran and husband Gerald, both of Wichita Falls, Texas. One granddaughter, Wendy Dolan and two great-grandchildren, Raven Wendal Dolan and Lillith Leevolany Dolan. Numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends.


Pallbearers are Jerry Hix, Terry Hix, Pete Carlile, Aaron Carlile, Jacky Glenn, Lonnie Cavitt and Brandon Dolan.
