Theodora married Valentine Ortega (1874-1918) with whom she had several children. Sadly, Valentine was one of thousands in California who died in the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic (which killed millions worldwide). She later married Profirio Avalos, and lived for many years in Ventura County, California on a little ranch near the river bottom.
She is remembered for her making of tamales; for spending much time knitting and crocheting; and for applying discipline to children/grandchildren by means of an old leather harness. Her grandchildren would spend time with her, listening to the Lone Ranger and other radio shows, all the while busily sewing, or knitting while she rocked back and forth in her antique rocking chair. Theodora lived to 89 years of age.
"You rock, Theodora!" RIP
