Edward C. Christian, 68, retired farmer and life-long resident of Atchison county, died at 7:55 o'clock this morning at his home, 1220 North Third street. Death was due to a heart ailment and complications. He had been ailing for the past three years and had been bedfast since December.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Stanton & Stanton chapel. The Rev. Roy Fields will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon cemetery. The body will remain at the mortuary until the funeral hour.
The pallbearers will be John Morris, George Fuhrman, L.T. Davenport, L.D. Cline, Charles Marlatt, and Art Matthias, all life long friends.
Mr. Christian's birth occurred on a farm south of Atchison July 17, 1870. He was a son of William and Letitia Christian, early settlers of Kansas. August 18, 1903, Mr. Christian was united in marriage to Miss Florence Cox of Atchison. The couple went to housekeeping on a farm south of Atchison. They lived on various farms, always in the same community until 1933 when they established their home here.
A man of excellent character, Mr. Christian was always well liked by his neighbors and had an unusually large number of fast friends. He was an able farmer and a good citizen.
Surviving is his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Glen Clovis of Atchison and Mrs. R.P. Temple of Topeka; a son, Leslie Christian of Atchison; three sisters, Mrs. William Ball and Mrs. C.O. Nyhart, both of Atchison, and Mrs. Art Throll, Bremerton, Wash.; a brother, John Christian, Bremerton, Wash.; three half-brothers, W.C. Christian and Robert Christian of Atchison, and Harry Christian, Joliet, Ill.; a half-sister, Mrs. Carl Antle, Atchison, and two grandchildren.
