John was the son of James E. Edwards and Martha Patsy Hamilton. He was the husband of Elizabeth Waldrop whom he married Nov 12, 1834. Their children were James Edwards, Matilda Edwards, Martha Edwards, Sarah Edwards, Mary Edwards,and Cynthia Edwards. After Elizabeth passed away in 1881, he was the second husband of Adeline Grubb Smith, whom he married Jan 11, 1883. They ran the "Poor Farm" in Jasper County, Georgia. After Adeline passed away in 1888, he married Ellen L. Rickett on June 18, 1899.
