PVT Gerald Edward Brock enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 28, 1943. He was assigned to Company C, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. PVT Brock died June 24, 1944 near Saint-Lo, France from fatal wounds received in the Normandy Campaign and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of DuQuoin High School and before joining the military worked at Kroger Thrift in DuQuoin and also worked as a cab driver in the same city. He was married to the former Helen Hirsch and a member of the First Evangelical Church of DuQuoin. His parents were Edward and Irene Brock. PVT Gerald Brock's name is inscribed in the Keyes Park Memorial in DuQuoin, Illinois.
